e164.org Dispute Policy
Single Number Disputes
The current dispute policy for handling with single numbers is to require a re-verification of the number. In future we are planning to prompt users for reverifications every 6 to 12 months to ensure data consistency, it's thought the cost would outweigh any benefits in performing reverifications at this point in time, compared to handling reports of dead routes.
When a dispute is received we email the current owner requiring them to delete or re-verify the number in the same manner when the number was first added.
After 48 hours of no action the number will be deleted and the disputer will be free to register the number.
Block Number Disputes
The current policy for dispute handling a block of numbers is to call the first number, the last number and a random number in the middle of the block. Due to people printing fake phone bills (usually for the purpose of commiting financial fraud) this isn't deemed a perfect way for phone number verifications, where as making calls to the number via PSTN should be harder to compromise and can be automated to keep running costs to a minimum.
